Hello! I am Shailee, and this blog is for me to review, recommend, and ramble books. I’ve been an avid reader since I was gifted a few novels from The Famous Five series when I was four, but I’ve pretty much grown up among shelves of books- first in my mother’s house back in Calcutta then my house in Pune and now, in Bangalore.
A few months into law school I realized that my interest in reading was taking a back seat and one of my friends inspired me to document my reading through this blog. Since then, I believe I’ve not only been able to read more but also as diversely as possible- across genres, languages, continents and cultures. I’ve also grown a penchant for international literature as well as translated books.
I’m very keen on sharing literary gems from around the world with you- I’m particularly fond of translated works, postcolonial literature, African literature, and Indian literature- so I hope you stay for the discussion and debate. I also run a book club called ‘Decolonizing the Book Shelf’ along with one of my friends; you can find us here.
If you have any feedback or queries, feel free to get in touch with me at basushailee@gmail.com. Further, I, along with my superwoman mother assist with rescue, foster, and adoption of animals in Bangalore so do get in touch if you’re interested in adopting cats or dogs, or if you’d like to contribute in any way. Meow.
